Summertime and the gaming is ... well, it's a little more relaxed, which is fitting given that schools out, cottages are opened and there's more to do than sit inside and hone your twitch-shooting skills.

There are some big games coming down the road, but for now, take a breather and enjoy some of these titles as you try to beat the heat:

* deBlob 2 (360, PS3, Wii; THQ): Bring colour to a stark world that has been taken over by Comrade Black, a leader who is determined to suck the colourful life out of all he encounters. You play as a Blob, who can absorb different colours from paint pools and restore colour and life to the affected cities and its citizens. Along the way, you'll have to solve some brain-teasing puzzles and do battle with some of Black's minions while honing your platforming skills.

* Wipeout: In the Zone (360 Kinect; Activision): If you're a fan of the over-the-top American game show, you'll definitely have a blast playing the home version. If you've never seen the show, it pits contestants against crazed obstacle courses. The idea is to put up best time during the course of three rounds.

The attraction lies mainly in watching your friends get knocked silly and mocked mercilessly by the announcers. Every misstep is replayed from myriad camera angles.

Up to four people can play offline, but there is no online support. Too bad. Maybe next time.

* DanceDance Revolution (360, PS3, Wii; Konami): Get your body grooving to the beat in this latest installment in the franchise.

Compete against yourself or three other players in dance battles, or get sweating with the workout mode. It's all about getting off the couch and grooving to the beats of hits like Orianthi's According to You, Train's Hey, Soul Sister, Lady Antebellum's Need You Now and The B-52's Love Shack.

The game doesnt play very well and isnt very fun. The "cook" doesnt move fast at all, the cakes arent very interesting or exciting, it gets mundane very quickly and I havent figured out how to "throw away" cakes if you mess up an order, unless I missed something. So I end up restarting the level every time I mess up. Otherwise the cook stands there with an unusable order and no way to get rid of it. Plus you cant turn just the music off but keep the sound effects. Its sound or no sound. Im very unsatisfied and will delete off my iPad. Wish I hadnt wasted my money.
