Clutch slippage with new BDL belt drive... - The Jockey Journal Board

Just put new BDL 1.5" belt drive on the ole shovel and for some reason the clutch slips from a dead stop. I have no issues with the clutch other then from a dead stop and it isn't all the time either. I have tried adjusting it every way to sunday and still get some slippage. I never had this issue before switching to this belt drive. These are also new wet/dry plates from march or so and adjusted the exact way they were before. Keep tightening the spring retainer nuts (there's 3 of them) 1/2 turn at a time until the slippage goes away. If you end up with more than a couple, maybe 3 threads showing on the end of the studs, something's wrong. It could be the new basket is just a tad deeper than the stock one or you replaced the disks in a different order than you took them out and now they need to re-seat themselves against each other. I'm having this exact problem on my shovel. Did all the same stuff, same belt drive, even cleaned the clutches and steels and lightly scuffed the discs on a piece of glass with sand paper. Its still doing it though. So I can turn the spring nuts in more then the 1&1/32" or whatever it says in the manual? Even put new springs in, its driving me crazy! I know man! I even tried on of those clutch tamer plastic things, problem is mine is a 5 finger and can only find ones that are for 3 finger, tried anyways with only two holes lined up and two retaining clips. Worked for about ten minutes then back to the same. Kinda made the pressure plate come out uneven. Think I might try some new clutch discs and one of those beefier aluminum pressure plates. Mine is open primary by the way. The steels have a rounded edge on one side, does anybody know if they should be pointed out or in?
