Hackers Issue Vermont Zombie Alert

DANVILLE, Vt. -- Driving in the middle of summer road construction, with its bumps, noise, pebbles threatening your windshield, and delays impacting your arrival, may have just gotten worse. In Danville, Vt., add to that list the risk of having your brain eaten by raging zombies.

"No zombie attack has occurred, as far as I know," chuckled Vt. transportation secretary Brian Searles.

A hacker or hackers apparently busted into a roadside sign's base and reprogrammed the normal message alerting drivers to slow-downs through the workzone, changing it to read "we are sick of traffic," and "raging zombies 1 mile."

Transportation officials say the signs are the responsibility of the contractor. The contractor quickly got the zombie warning fixed. Drivers suspect the prank was the product of the hacker's frustration at the construction site traffic tie-ups.

Danville resident Judy Garland shares a name with the late movie star, and the Vermont woman also used to think there was no place like home. That changed when her home became the center of a multi-million dollar, multi-year project. It's improving Route 2, requiring complete re-builds in some places between St. Johnsbury and Montpelier.

Now Judy Garland wishes the Wizard of Oz could speed things along, because she and friends have been stuck 20 minutes or longer. "All you can do is grin and bear it," Garland sighed.

It'll take a lot of grinning, but Vermont is promising to work with the road crews to try to reduce wait times. "There are going to be disruptions," Searles said, "and we can't completely eliminate them, but we can make it a lot better than it is in Danville."

That would provide relief for the highway hackers and other drivers, even if they're not trying to outrun zombies.

Lady GaGa Given £25k Ruby Slippers From Wizard Of Oz | Lady GaGa ...

Lady GaGa is said to be over the moon after receiving a pair of £25,000 ruby slippers, made originally for Judy Garland for her role as Dorothy in the Wizard Of Oz .

The Born This Way singer, who performed with the famous shoes at her LA Monster Ball show on her 25th birthday, was allegedly given the slippers from the cult 1939 movie by her management, before going on stage at the Staples Center .

According to The Sun , GaGa told her Little Monsters that she once auditioned to play the role of Dorothy in a show, but lost out on the part to the school bully.

The 25-year old explained: "I wanted to be Dorothy so bad. I was in 8th grade and she was a senior."

I definitely deserved to get it, but I didn't get it. I was one of the people in the chorus, the worst role. On behalf of myself and all of those bullied around the world, now these ruby slippers are mine."

Lady G, real name Stefani Germanotta , added: "When you don't feel like Dorothy today, maybe you feel like someone on the chorus or the Scarecrow - just know you will have opportunities in your real life to change things and maybe someone will hand you a pair of ruby slippers."

It is thought that five pairs of the iconic ruby slippers were made for Garland, with The Sun reporting that one sold for a cool £93,000 and is due to be auctioned off again at Christie's next month.
