Rumor: Relic Set to Unveil Dawn of War III at Gamescom
Relic Games has confirmed it will be in attendance at Gamescom in Germany next month to make a big announcement, and all signs point to the unveiling of Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War III .At last year's Gamescom, Relic revealed the second full expansion to Dawn of War II, Retribution. At the time, publisher THQ's VP Danny Bilson noted that once Retribution shipped (February), Relic planned to transition immediately to Dawn of War III, setting the anticipated real-time strategy game up for a late 2012, early 2013 release.
Now, in an interview with Eurogamer , Relic marketing manager James McDermott confirms, "We have a big announcement at Gamescom. There is something cool and I think people will be really pleased to hear about it."
McDermott stopped short of saying the announcement would be in regard to Dawn of War III, but the Eurogamer interview itself is all about the RTS, with McDermott revealing that the studio is putting a big focus on building a more strategic game where players can create highly customized armies.
"There's going to be lots of opportunities to expand and build your own custom mega army," McDermott told Eurogamer. "That's definitely an area we want to invest in. We see a good opportunity."
"With the 40k universe, the tagline is: there is only war. We want to give you that greater sense of the war. The battle. The war that rages eternal, and make that feel like that's really imposing and all around you, and you have your own personal, custom army in there."
"Your army and my army should feel very different. That's where we would like to get to."
Gamescom 2011 kicks off on August 17 in Cologne, Germany.
