Review: 'Mad Blocker Alpha: Revenge of the Fluzzles'
Mad Blocker Alpha: Revenge of the Fluzzles is the latest PSP/PS3 mini-release from Open Emotion Studios. The game tells the tale of Fluzzles, small fluffy creatures who love shape-morphing. Unfortunately for said Fluzzles, evil Mokes are polluting their world, and the Fluzzles must summon the Great Buhmba to restore the balance.
Based on this description, you might expect Mad Blocker to be a side-scrolling platformer or a kid-friendly action/adventure game, but in actuality, it's a color matching block puzzler with roots in Tetris or Dr. Mario.Unlike the other two examples, however, goes beyond blocker Mad charming style of art, music, and comic book super cute "deleted scenes" style. The game features three distinct game modes, all of which have the same easy to use control scheme and follow the same basic mechanics, with some notable differences.
The core of the game is story mode, which is a series of levels, each with unique objectives that range from the release of a number of specifically colored blocks, or simply to achieve a certain score. Some of the level objectives can be deceivingly difficult, and that familiar puzzler feeling of "just one more try and I can get this" is definitely there.
Outside of story mode is "Endless Mode" which is a fairly standard marathon mode in which you attempt to play as long as possible, wracking up a high score. This mode is a nice addition to the basic story mode, and adds a bit of longevity to the game. Rounding out the last of the modes is "Tower Mode", in which you must build a tower of blocks as high as possible, staying above an ever fluctuating red line. This is essentially "opposite" mode, in which clearing your blocks is actually a bad thing.
All in all, the unique (and sometimes creepy) art style, the simple but enjoyable music and sound effects, and the solid functionality of game play make Mad Blocker an excellent Minis title. Not overly time consuming, but deep enough for both short and long play sessions.

You're less likely to be carrying around a PSP than you are a phone at any given time, but the PSP more capably handles fast-paced jumping, ducking, and fighting. Touch-screen buttons are fine and all, but when you can feel your thumb slide off of one

Considering Sony's dedication to handheld gaming with the PSP first, and now the PS Vita, it's tempting to see the Xperia Play as a PSP family member first and phone second. In reality, those hoping to get a clearer understanding of what the device

A nifty PSP game gets a port to Xbox Live, but is it as satisfying as the handheld original? Here's James' review of Half-Minute Hero… As a genre, the JRPG appeals to a certain crowd while being vilified by others. “They're linear,” their critics moan

Like Sony's other successful platformers of yesteryear, it has been demoted to spinoffs and remakes on the PSP for the past half decade. However the advent of the Playstation Move has provided the perfect output for family-friendly games like this: the
Classic Game Room HD – Sony PSP review | GamerGasmTV
Classic Game Room HD reviews the Sony PSP model PSP-3001, released in 2008. This PSP is the unit that CGR uses for all of the PSP reviews because it has an amazing audio and video output that allows gamers to play the PSP on televisions with component video for the best picture possible. The PSP itself has an amazing screen, sounds great through headphones (or stereo system) and is built with excellent controls and feels solid. The UMD format is the weak link for this (and other, older PSP models) unit because the UMD drive is an optical drive just waiting to have problems. Fortunately PSP owners can download most of their games from the Playstation Network these days, including a huge number of original PSone video games for PSP. Now that the PSP Go is released you may think that the PSP series 1000, 2000 and 3000 are obsolete but they are not! The older PSP models can still download the newest games and rock your journey with Playstation on the go goodness.

Just add another joystick to the PSP 3000 and you’re sorted! Not interested in the cameras, the touchscreen and touchpad or the graphic capabilities of the Vita, PSP games are awesome, I enjoy them just as I do console titles. My PS3 is for the serious gaming. I can see the rear touchpad on the Vita getting in the way, because I hold my PSP with my 2 middle fingers at the back. Oh, and don’t scrap UMD’s, they’re awesome!
