Jeremy lands second state title
BUNDABERG'S Jeremy Landt claimed a state title for the second year in a row, taking out the Senior National Heavy at the 2011 Queensland Sprint Kart Championships at Warwick on the weekend.
Two months shy of his 17th birthday, the apprentice electrician is still on his learner driver’s license, but he is already very accomplished behind the wheel of his kart.
Landt took up the sport seven years ago and he snared his first state title last year, in the Junior National Heavy, but he stepped up to seniors for the first time and handled the transition with ease.
He lined up fifth on the grid for the 20-lap final after being “taken out” in his second of three heats, but he staked his claim, re-taking the lead on the last corner of the second last lap, before holding on.
But the tough competitor admitted he “wasn’t confident” going into the final shoot-out.
“I was hoping for a top three finish – there were some quick fellas in class and I wasn’t expecting first place – that’s for sure – but I diced from first to third on every single lap,” Landt said.
“It was a little bit of a gamble making my move before the last lap, but I knew they would then have to do something to ruin my day.”
He said a change of karts to an Arrow model before last year was a major reason for his emergence from the pack.
Landt also competed in the Senior National Light, placing a creditable ninth of 29.
He will now chase the Closed state title in Gladstone in September.
“But next year, I would like to progress a bit further and maybe go to other state titles or the nationals matter, but it’s a matter of finding the time and money.”
Landt is also very appreciative of his sponsors, Cummins South Pacific, Arrow Karts and MG Engines.
A total of 385 drivers competed at the titles, including six other Bundaberg representatives who each also performed well, with Harrison Oddie placing fifth in Rookies, and Marcon brothers Clinton and Jordie sixth in Clubman and 15th in Junior National Light respectively.
Also, Joseph Black claimed eighth in Midgets, Brodie Chardon was a handy 11th in Junior National Light, and Rylee Walton wound up 18th in Junior National Heavy.

Aspiring apprentices must have a high school diploma or a GED, a valid driver's license and then pass an aptitude test that is half algebra and half reading comprehension, according to Kenny Smith, director of the Joint Apprenticeship Training Center.

The proclamation recognized the estimated $5 million economic impact of the National Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (NJATC) for the Electrical Industry – its annual training week brings about 2000 people to this area.
Plumbing and electrical testimonials on its website prompted investigators to scrutinize the business. Dean's allowed an unregistered apprentice to install plumbing without supervision and with an expired apprentice registration.
Electrician Classifications and What They Mean - InfoBarrel
Most states and local governments that require licensing in order to become an electrician have an apprentice classification. This is the entry level position in the electrical trade. Apprentice electricians learn the trade by working directly with an experienced, licensed electrician. The type of work and work hours are logged and verified by their employer as proof to the licensing authority that they have work experience before being permitted to advance to the next level in their career. Most, but not all states have a Journeyman electrician classification. Typically, a journeyman electrician is required to have between 2 and 4 years of experience and has to pass an exam specific to the journeyman classification. As the next level in the electrical trade, a journeyman is higher on the pay scale and has more responsibilities. This is because of their experience and knowledge developed over the years. A journeyman is typically able to work on his own, instead of being supervised, and in many areas he is even allowed to supervise apprentice electricians and verify their work experience. A journeyman classification does not mean that the learning ends. Continuing education courses are required by the local or state licensing boards as a way to ensure a journeyman is up to date on the electrical codes. In states with a master electrician classification, this is the highest level an electrician can achieve. A master electrician will have between 4 and 8 years of experience before they are able to apply for this top level license. This license offers the highest pay scale and the most responsibility. A master electrician will supervise apprentice, and in some areas even journeyman electrician and verify their work experience. We’ve just outlined the three most common classifications for electricians. Your state may offer more or fewer classifications. Some states, for instance, further break down journeyman and master electricians into residential, commercial and industrial journeyman and master electricians. Check with your state or local jurisdiction for the classifications and requirements in your area.
